Have you ever had a dream about some particular situation that later came true? This has baffled me for some time now. I've had several such dreams as a young child and even recently I had experienced this kind of dreams.
The dreams I had had situations of small importance mundane, but during the next couple of days, that thing that I was dreaming about actually became reality.
How would we explain such situations?
Well, we might say that based on how things are going, your mind is able to "predict" future outcomes based on the available information it has, similar to an AI model. That is a plausible explanation that I would support in many of these cases, but in few of them I could not. For example I've had a very good friend in my childhood and we had gotten along wonderfully. One night, I had dreamed that I had gotten into a fist fight with him over something. Of course I had ignored the dream and the next day me and my friend hung out together as we always did, cracked jokes and had fun. At some point we were kind of playing together as we had done every day, chasing and catching each other and so on. I had caught him, and for some reason he got very angry and punched me in the face.
To this day I don't remember what exactly triggered him to respond like that. So we had a fight as sometimes kids do and 5 minutes later we made up. What is interesting about this particular situation is that nothing from past experience could have predicted this scenario, we had never even argued before, we were very good friends!
Why did my mind reveal to me such a scenario?
I have many other situations like this, some more cryptic others more easy to foresee.
For example, when someone dear to us had died, after hearing that that person's passed away at that day, I remembered what I had dreamed about. It was a dream where I was in that person's house, and we were having a good time laughing and drinking. In the dream I said let's go out in the garden and get some air. When we went outside, there was like this wide garden, lush green but filled with tombstones and crosses.
I was looking at a cemetery of sorts. And in the dream I remember it saddened me to see all those crosses, although just before I was feeling good. I woke up from the dream with this strange feeling of sadness in my heart, and decided to try to forget about it since its just one of those dreams.
Is this phenomenon limited to our minds. Are our minds the creators of such inventions and are they simple coincidences? Possibly.
I think this world is more vas than what we are able to see and know and if we don't keep an open mind, we might lose out on some interesting insights.
